Sign in with your work account

Connect Ryno to your company service with Google or Microsoft, stay signed in, and read what a failed sign-in tells you.

Signing in connects Ryno to the service your company runs for it, so that what your team publishes appears next to your own folders. You sign in with the work account you already have, from Google or Microsoft: there is no Ryno password to create, and none to forget.

Nothing else in these guides needs an account. Opening a folder, sending a deep link and running a flow all work without signing in.

Open Settings, then Account. The pane reads Sign in with your work account, with one button per provider:

  • Continue with Google, if your work address is a Google account.
  • Continue with Microsoft, if your company signs you in through Microsoft.

Use the account your company gave you. A personal address, such as a Gmail or Outlook.com address, is refused as soon as you sign in, whichever provider you choose: no session opens for it. A Microsoft personal account is refused too, even when its address looks like a work one, because it says nothing about the company you belong to.

What your browser shows

Ryno opens your default browser on your provider’s own sign-in page. Sign in there the way you usually do, with the same password and the same second factor. Ryno never sees either of them: it only receives what your provider vouches for, which is your name and your address.

While you do that, the pane reads Finish signing in in your browser…. If you changed your mind, or picked the wrong provider, Cancel stops waiting, and you can start again.

When your provider hands you back, the tab says You're signed in. You can close this tab. Close it and return to Ryno: the pane now shows your name, your address and the provider you used.

Stay signed in

Ryno keeps your session between launches, so you sign in once per machine rather than once per day. The session is encrypted by the keychain of your system before it is written, and never stored in clear. When the pane opens, it reads Checking your account… for a moment while Ryno reads it back.

If your system offers no keychain, as on some Linux setups, Ryno keeps the session only until you quit, and you sign in again at the next launch. A session can also end on the service side, when it expires or when it is revoked. Ryno then tells you that you are not signed in any more, and you sign in again.

Your role in your company

Under your account, the pane shows your company workspace and your role in it. If your account is not part of a company workspace yet, the row reads No company workspace. An administrator also sees a Manage members button, which opens the members page in the web application. Roles and what each one can do are explained in Roles and governance.

Sign out

Sign out sits in the same pane. It ends your session with the service, not only on this machine, so the session stops opening anything the moment you leave.

Signing out does not empty Ryno. What you already read from your company catalogue stays readable offline, and your folders, your recent projects and the tabs you left open stay where they are. If the service cannot be reached when you sign out, you are still signed out on this machine, and the session expires on its own on the service side.

When signing in fails

A failed sign-in never leaves you with a code to look up. The pane says what happened in one sentence, and what to do about it. Here is each sentence, and what lies behind it.

What Ryno says What to do next
Microsoft personal accounts cannot be used here. Sign in with your work account instead. Choose Continue with Microsoft again and pick your work account. If your browser signs you in automatically with a personal one, sign out of it in the browser first.
Personal email addresses cannot be used here. Sign in with your work account instead. Sign in again with the address your company gave you, not a personal one. If your browser picks a personal account for you, sign out of it there first.
Your provider does not vouch for this email address. Use an address your organisation has verified, then try again. Your provider could not confirm the address belongs to you. Sign in with the address your company manages, or ask your administrator to verify it.
The sign-in service did not answer. Check your connection, then try again. Check that you are online, and on your company network or VPN if the service is only reachable from there.
Sign-in is not set up on this service yet. Ask whoever runs it to finish the setup. Nothing on your side can fix this. Send that sentence to the person who runs the service for your company.
Your browser never came back with an answer. Start again, and finish signing in from the tab that opens. The sign-in tab was closed, or finished in another browser window. Start again, and stay in the tab Ryno opens.
The answer that came back belongs to another sign-in attempt. Start again, and keep a single tab open. Two sign-in tabs were open at once. Close the older ones, then start again.
This version is too old for the sign-in service. Update to the latest version, then sign in again. Install the latest version of Ryno, then sign in again.
You are not signed in, or your session has ended. Sign in again to continue. Your session expired or was revoked. Sign in again from the Account pane.
Sign-in stopped for a reason this version does not know about. Try again, and update to the latest version if it keeps happening. Try once more. If it comes back, update Ryno: a newer version knows the reason and will name it.

Your Microsoft administrator has to approve Ryno

Some companies ask Microsoft to hold back any app that nobody has approved yet. In that case, the page your browser shows is Microsoft’s, not Ryno’s: it asks for an administrator’s approval, and signing in stops there. Ryno is still waiting at that point, so select Cancel in the pane.

Only an administrator of your Microsoft tenant can lift this. Send them the name Ryno and ask them to grant consent on behalf of your organisation, from the enterprise applications of the Microsoft Entra admin center. It is done once for everybody in the company. Once it is granted, choose Continue with Microsoft again.
